Q: How can I submit a Work Request?

IT Services can help you if you contact us by either of the methods above. You may also self-submit a ticket request at our Customer Web Interface

Q: How do I get my computer accounts created?

Faculty and Staff must request their accounts by filling out the ID Request Form, found online.

Q: Do I get space on the Network for my files?  What are their Drive Letters and Uses?

Y: Your personal space

Q: What kind of free software can I get from Truman?

Truman provides software for your use on all faculty/staff machines.  Please contact the IT Service Center for details at x4544. Truman does not provide software for use on personally owned computers

Q: How do I find the email addresses/phone numbers of students and faculty?

Contact information for students and faculty can be found by typing a name in the search bar located in the Truman Website top right-hand corner or in the Searches tab found in Truview.

Q: How can you change the information listed about you on the Truman web directory?

Log on to your Truview account, select the Faculty tab and change various personal information under the My Personal Information Header.

Q: How do I change my network password?

If you are using a Windows computer on the Truman Domain, press control+alt+delete any time after logging in. Then click change password. If you are not using Windows, you may go to the password reset page here:

Faculty/Staff Questions about Truman E-mail

Q:  Where do I go to setup an email account?

Faculty/Staff accounts are created by request.  Please fill out an online application.

Q: How can I check my E-mail?

You can check your mail through Truman’s Outlook Web Access interface, or you can use a mail client on your computer, such as Microsoft Outlook.

Q: What are the Incoming and Outgoing Servers for Truman Mail?

The incoming server is email.truman.edu (you must use SSL)

The outgoing server is mail.truman.edu

These names will be required if you choose to check your e-mail through email clients such as Mac Mail, Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.

Q: Can I check my E-mail from home?

Yes.  Go to our Outlook Web Access interface
Each faculty/staff email account has a size limitation. If you reach the quota, you will receive a message that your inbox is full. You can archive old items to your hard drive to free up space. If you need help with this, please call the IT Service Center.

Faculty/Staff Questions about Truman Telephone Services

Q: How do I place an on-campus phone call?

Dial last 4 digits of the phone number.  For example, if you wish to contact 785-4544, simply dial 4544.

Q: How do I place an off-campus local call?

Dial the 7 digit phone number.

Q: How do I place a long distance call?

Dial the 10 digit phone number plus your Authcode.

Q: What is Authcode?

An Authcode is your 6-digit number used for long distance access. Faculty and Staff should have two, one for University Business and one for personal calls.

Q: How do I get my own Authcode?

Faculty and Staff can obtain their Authcode by contacting their Division Secretary, who will issue official one for University Business. If a Personal Auth Code is needed, contact the IT Service Center a 785-4544 to have a ticket request made.

Q: How do I place an International Call?

Dial 011 plus country code followed by the phone number plus Authcode.

Q: Why does my phone have a busy signal on it when I pick it up?

This is stutter dial tone, it means that you have voicemail messages.

Q: How do I access my voicemail messages?

Go to http://phones.truman.edu for full information to access your voice mail

Q: What is my passcode?

In the beginning it will be set to 878626 (TRUMAN), and then you need to access your voicemail box and follow the verbal tutorial. It will help you set up your mailbox and change your passcode to whatever 6-digit number you would like.

Q: How do I get campus information?

Dial “0”

Q: How do I get off-campus information?

Dial “411” plus your authcode. ( It costs $1.40) or use the internet.

Q: How do I report issues with my phone service?

Dial “0” or “4000”

Q: How do I change my default printer?

Go to Start, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, Right Click on the printer that you would like to have as your default printer and click on Set as default.

Faculty/Staff Questions about Internet Access and the Web

Q: How do I change my default browser to Internet Explorer?

Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, go to the Program tab, check the box that says Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser. This should change IE to be your default browser.

Q: How do I change my default browser to Mozilla Firefox?

Open the Firefox browser and select Tools => Options => Advanced Tab and check the box labeled under the System Defaults header recognizing Firefox as the default browser. This should change Mozilla to be your default browser.

Q: I want my own website, what do I have to do?

Q:Where do I go for help with computer problems?

The Truman IT Services IT Service Center is the Central Contact for Computer Problems:

Q: How do I get my computer accounts created?

Your computer accounts are automatically created for your scheduled Student Orientation date.

Q: Do I get space on the Network for my files?  What are their Drive Letters and Uses?

Y: Your personal space(1GB of storage)

Q: What is my E-mail address?

Every Truman Student is given a unique User ID(i.e. abc123).  This will function as your login for campus computers, as well as your E-mail address.  People can send you mail at user_id@truman.edu.

Q:I don’t have my own computer.  Where can I go to use one?

Truman has several computer labs available for student use.  Please visit our Academic Labs page for details.

Q:How can I check my E-mail?

You can check your mail through Truman’s TruView interface, or you can use a mail client on your computer, such as Mac Mail, Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird.

Q: If i want to use Mail Client, what are the Incoming and Outgoing Servers for Truman Mail?

You can find Mail Client settings here.

Such information found on the link above will be required if you choose to check your e-mail through Mac Mail, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird.or any non-TruView mail client.

Q:Can I check my E-mail from home?

Student Questions about Truman Telephone Services

This section is for On Campus students with a Truman telephone in their residence hall room.

Q: How do I place an on-campus phone call?

Dial last 4 digits of the phone number.  For example, if you wish to contact 785-4544, simply dial 4544.

Q:How do I place an off-campus local call?

Dial the 7 digit phone number.

Q:How do I place a long distance call?

Dial the 10 digit phone number plus your Authcode.

Q: What is an Authcode?

An Authcode is your 6-digit number used for long distance access. On-Campus Students should receive their Authcode before the beginning of classes.

Q:How do I place an International Call?

Dial 011 plus country code followed by the phone number plus Authcode.

Q: How do I access my voicemail messages?

If you have your own phone just dial your own number or dial * 90 if you have stutter dial tone and follow the verbal directions. You will need a passcode.

If you share a phone, you will need to call your number and then press your number on the voice menu, and the voicemail system will forward you to your mailbox.

Press “*” when it answers and then enter your passcode when instructed to do so.

Q: What is my passcode?

In the beginning it will be set to 1234, and then you need to access your voicemail box and follow the verbal tutorial. It will help you set up your mailbox and change your passcode to whatever 4-digit number you would like.

Q: How do I get campus information?

Dial “0”

Q:How do I get off-campus information?

Dial “9-411” plus your authcode. ( It cost $1.40) or use the internet.

Q: How do I get my phone repaired or other questions answered?

Dial “0”.

Student Questions about Printing

Q: Can IT Services help me set up my printer?

IT Services cannot help you with problems involving your personal printer, however, we can help you connect to the networked campus printers.

Q:Can I print to lab printers from my dorm room?

Students connecting to the campus network from their dorm room are able to print to the lab laser printers. Please consult our instructions or contact the IT Service Center at x4544. Students can use view.truman.edu from their personal devices to print from Dorms or anywhere.

Q: How do I change my default printer?

Go to Start, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes, Right Click on the printer that you would like to have as your default printer and click on Set as default.

Q:Does it cost money to print to university printers?

Yes.  Printing is charged at 8 cents per page for black and white, 5 cents per side for duplex, and 45 cents per page for color. 5 cent printing is from the Duplex Print queues only.

Q: Can I add money to my printing Account?

You can purchase more prints from the cashier’s window in McClain or
online. $15 in printing credits is applied automatically to each students account at the beginning of the fall, spring and summer semesters. This amount, plus any credits students purchase themselves, accrue till accounts are zeroed each fall.

Student Questions about Internet Access and the Web

Q: How can I connect to the Internet from my off-campus computer?

Truman State University does not offer internet service for off-campus students. However, there are several companies in Kirksville which offer this service, including SouthWestern Bell, and CableOne.

Q: How do I change my default browser to Internet Explorer?

Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options, go to the Program tab, check the box that says Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser. This should change IE to be your default browser.

Q:How do I change my default browser to Mozilla Firefox?

M-F 8:00-5:00.
