07/22/2003 Intermittent Outages Occuring in Springfield area 7/22/2003

Some customers serviced by CenturyTel in the Springfield area are experiencing outages. The cause is unknown at this time. MOREnet engineers are currently working with CenturyTel to determine and fix the problems. Thank you for your patience.

07/21/2003 We have experienced two short interruptions on the main Truman web server, the cause of which is currently under investigation. These interruptions affected all websites except for personal web space including the development web site. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
07/18/2003 During the normal maintenance window (3rd Thursday after 8pm), Network Services will be attempting to complete a firmware upgrade on the network switches in McClain and Violette hall. This upgrade should not cause extensive outages, but as with any configuration work on the switches, unanticipated problems can arise. Please be aware that if you are needing access to files from any network drive after 8pm tonight, you should make a copy to your local hard drive. Additionally it is possible that Internet service could be interrupted. We regret any inconvenience this may cause.
07/16/2003 MoreNet determined the problem to be their AT&T Circuit in Kansas City. Traffic is be routed around the problem Circuit.
07/16/2003 A handful of websites, cnn.com, aol.com and aim.com were not reachable. The problem is outside the Truman Network and appears to either be MoreNETs Kansas City Router or one of the ISPs that connect in Kansas City
07/15/2003 During a routine firmware upgrade for network switches on Sunday night the 13th, we experienced an unexpected outage of the network backbone. The outage would have interrupted any web or network traffic between approximately 11:00pm and 3:00am. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
05/27/2003 Email sent to students who are not enrolled for summer classes was returned to the sender between 1:00 a.m. and 8:15 p.m. on May 24. This problem affected students not enrolled for summer classes and messages sent to username@truman.edu. Email sent to aliases was delivered properly.

This issue was caused by a problem in the automatic update of email alias files on the mail exchanger server. The problem has been resolved, and should not occur again. Any mail that was affected was returned to the sender as undeliverable.

05/06/2003 Campus Pipeline was unavailable from approximately 4:15 - 4:30 p.m on 5/5/03
05/06/2003 The administrative web server and the Help Desk server were temporarily unavailable around 4:30 yesterday, due to problems with a shared application.
04/24/2003 Network services were briefly disrupted at ~ 3 pm due to a problem PC on the network.
04/25/2003 The administrative web application SQL server was temporarily offline at approximately 7:45pm Wednesday evening 4.23.03. Database-driven websites such as the ITS website and the Trudex Searchable Index were unavailable during this time. Services were restored shortly after the problem was reported. Initial information indicates a network interface card failure. We continue to investigate to confirm the cause of the problem.
04/23/2003 Campus Pipeline was unavailable from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 on 4/22/03.
04/18/2003 Tonight, during the regularly scheduled server maintenance window, all secure websites (http://secure.truman.edu/myweb-s) will be unavailable. We expect to have service restored by Friday morning.
04/14/2003 Barnett Hall has been reconnected to the campus network via a temporary lower speed network link. _________________________________________

The fiber optic cables connecting Barnett Hall to the campus network have been damaged and are non-functional. There is no network access in Barnett Hall at this time. The backup fiber optic cables also appear to have been damaged and are non-functional. We are working on restoring service and are investigating alternative methods for network services to Barnett Hall.

04/11/2003 In order to test and implement a new web application, access to edit administrative websites and some organizational websites has been temporarily disabled. The server will be re-booted at 12:05pm in order to restore access.
03/31/2003 The main administrative webserver had to be rebooted at 2:30 on Friday 28 Mar 03 to restore complete functionality of certain web services.
03/27/2003 The library system hosted at Lance will be down from 3-5 PM on March 27th for a scheduled upgrade.
03/25/2003 Student Y: Drives were unavailable from approximately 4:45 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. due to a server problem.
03/23/2003 Student Y: drives were temporarily unavailable from ~ 3 pm - 4 pm due to a server problem.
03/21/2003 Network services were unavailable from ~ 9:45 PM to 10:20 PM due to a network flood. Machines were traced down and corrective measures were taken.
03/22/2003 Critical security maintenance on Truman's web database server was performed today from 12:10-1:10pm. During this timeframe some web applications and database-driven websites (such as ITS) were temporarily unavailable. Service to all database-driven applications and sites has been restored.
03/12/2003 Access to campus email will be disrupted this afternoon for approximately 15-20 minutes beginning at 4:00PM. This disruption will be due to a critical upgrade for the email system. All services should be restored by 4:30PM. You will not be able to check your email during this time period.
03/03/2003 Internet access was down and local network services were severely disrupted this morning by a denial of service attack. The problem machine was traced down and disconnected. Network services were restored.
02/25/2003 Internet access was down and local network services were severely disrupted by a denial of service attack. Services have now been restored and investigations are continuing.
03/07/2003 The problem appears to have been resolved. On Wednesday afternoon, March 5, MOREnet changed the QoS (quality of service) for our Internet connection. Since then our Internet access has been back to normal. _________________________________
We are experiencing an intermittent problem with slow Internet access. We are working with MOREnet on finding and fixing the problem. Analysis has not revealed any problem on our local network. The Internet performance problem began Tuesday morning (2-19), vanished Friday morning (2-21) before 8 AM but returned on Monday morning (2-24). This problem also seems to affect Library access to Lance. A new network monitor point was installed Tuesday morning (2-25) to provide better trace information. Several sniffer traces were sent to MOREnet for analysis. The traces show a Internet performance problem. A computer has been set up in a DMZ completely past all Truman network equipment, it connects directly to the MOREnet router. This computer is experiencing similar problems with Internet performance.
