09/30/2003 Tonight (09/18/2003), ITS will be distributing a Microsoft security patch to protect against the most recently announced vulnerability in Microsoft Windows XP, 2000, and NT4. ITS will distribute this patch automatically using our Systems Management Server. Any computers that are left on this evening will apply the security patch at 12:01 AM. Computers that do not receive the patch (because they are powered off or not connected to the campus network) will receive the patch the next time that they are powerd on and/or connected.

During the installation of the security patch, the computer will need to reboot. If a user is logged on at the time, a 5 minute countdown will appear asking the user to close any open applications. After this time has expired, the computer will automatically reboot to complete the installation of the security patch.

If users experience any difficulties or have questions, they may contact the ITS Help Desk at x4544.
