01/24/2005 Our Internet Access has been restored. The system attacking our network has been blocked.
---------------
Truman Internet access is currently very slow due to an outside source attempting to connect ~ 60,000 network flows per minute to the Truman network. We are working on resolving the problem as soon as possible.
01/21/2005 This morning two student computer systems were attempting to compromise multiple Truman network accounts. Some accounts may be temporarily locked out as a result. The computer systems are being traced down and disconnected from the campus network.

The Mac file server, Titanium, is scheduled for upgrades this evening during the regular ITS monthly server maintenance window. The server will be intermittently unavailable during the upgrade period, but should be completely back online by 7:00 Friday morning.

01/04/2005 Power was out for a brief time resulting in loss of internet connectivity for the campus. Power and network services have been restored.
01/04/2005 Electrical power has been restored to the Truman data center.
12/29/2004 There was a network service outage in Ryle Hall today due to an electrical problem. Network services in Ryle Hall have now been restored.
01/21/2005 All faculty and staff network Y: drives have been moved to the new file server Hydrogen as planned. All faculty and staff Y: drives are now back on-line and available for use.
-------------
During the 2004 Winter Interim Faculty and Staff network Y drives will be moved to a new file server. Network logon scripts and the ITS web site documentation have also been updated. The new faculty and staff Y drive server name is Hydrogen. These Y drive moves will be performed in late evenings and on weekends.
01/21/2005 All student network Y: drives have been moved to the new file server Hydrogen as planned. All student Y: drives are now back on-line and available for use.
------------
During the 2004 Winter Interim Student network Y drives will be moved to a new file server. Network logon scripts and the ITS web site documentation have also been updated. The new student Y drive server name is Hydrogen.
12/17/2004 The main adminstrative web server, Argon, failed during a scheduled reboot at 1:15am. It appears that a driver failed at startup and hung the system. This problem appears to be unrelated to the error reported on Tuesday. The server was manually rebooted at 4:00am. This cleared the error and all services are functioning normally at this time.
12/15/2004 Due to an error on the administrative database server, websites on multiple web servers were malfunctioning this morning - sites were either displaying errors, or not loading at all. The error on the database server has now been cleared and we are working to reconnect from the various webservers.
12/14/2004 The main administrative server, Argon, is experiencing failures this morning due to a log-file drive unexpectedly filling to capacity. We are working to correct the problem and Argon should be functioning normally within the next 30 minutes.
12/12/2004 Internet access was disrupted due to virus activity in the residence halls. The responsible ports were disabled and services were restored.
12/07/2004 Some network accounts were briefly locked out due to an attack on network accounts. The attacking system was identified and has been disabled.
12/07/2004 Some department W: drives were briefly unavailable during the lunch hour due to a server problem. All W: drives are now back on-line.
12/02/2004 Network services to Magruder Hall have been restored. A temporary fiber connector that was installed after Tuesday night's fiber break had come loose.
11/30/2004 Network services are currently unavailable to Magruder Hall. The fiber optic link to the building appears to have been damaged by construction work. We are investigating and will restore network services as soon as possible.
Update: services were restored at 8:57 pm
11/29/2004 The SSL or "secure identifier" certificate for the Exchange mail server had to be replaced today. Access should now be restored to all users of the Exchange mail server using the application of the user's choice.

While the certificate was expired, Outlook desktop application users should have been unaffected; Eudora desktop application users may have been unable to check their mail and all clients accessing their mail via Outlook Web Access (OWA) should have received a message indicating the secure certificate was valid, but expired. Selecting "yes" to proceed allowed access as normal to the Exchange mailboxes. There was a brief time this morning while the expired certificate was removed and the new one installed that the OWA was also unavailable.

Please be aware that the certificate's expiration did not affect the actual security of the traffic to and from the e-mail server. An SSL certificate is similar to a bonding process in which an outside company verifies that we are actually the organization we purport to be. What expired was our contract with Verisign to verify our identity, not our actual security configuration.

11/22/2004 The administrative webserver argon will be restarted at approximately 1:20 p.m. to resolve an installation issue with a custom application.
11/18/2004 Web Server Silver will be rebooted at 6:30pm during the ITS Maintenance Window. This should affect only the athletics website for a period of perhaps 5 minutes.
11/16/2004 Due to a hard drive failure on a server the U: drive data has been restored from a backup to a new server. Network logon scripts have been updated with this server change but people manually connecting to the U: drive will need to update their path. The new network path for the U drive is: \\Hydrogen\Student_Files
