Date Description
03/08/2005 Qwest Internet Services is experiencing an unexpected outage that is affecting MOREnet's St. Louis Internet connection. Customers may experience delays as traffic is routed to other providers.

03/07/2005 Krypton, the Faculty / Staff print server, was unavailable for a short time at ~ 8:30 AM due to a server problem. Services have been restored.
03/11/2005 There are a some new viruses that propagate via .rar files. RAR is normally a compressed file format. Rar is logically similar to Zip compressed files. If you receive a .rar file as an email attachment don't open it unless you know what it is. We will check with our email antivirus software vendor about adding .rar antivirus scanning to their product.
03/06/2005 We have received several reports of Internet users who are not able to access Truman web sites. One possible cause is what appears to be a possible Internet DNS cache poisoning attack (http://isc.sans.org/diary.php). Our DNS servers were also receiving heavy traffic from several remote sites. We are continuing to investigate this issue.
03/04/2005 We are experiencing intermittent slowdowns in email processing. We have an open trouble ticket with the vendor and are working with them to identify and correct the problem as soon as possible.
03/02/2005 Due to a system configuration issue on the new database server, new connections to Banner were failing from 11:03am to 11:26am this morning. This included direct forms access to Banner and access through TruView. The issue has been corrected now.
03/01/2005 There were several brief email sending outages this afternoon between noon and 2:30 PM. We've identified and corrected the problems.
03/01/2005 This afternoon there was a reverse DNS outage from ~ 2:05 - 2:25 PM.
03/01/2005 12:52 p.m. TruView is not currently able to send outgoing mail. The TruView system will be restarted at approximately 12:55 to try to fix the problem. All other systems appear to be functioning correctly.

UPDATE: The problem was actually with mail.truman.edu, the SMTP server. The problem has been resolved.

02/25/2005 Some Truman network accounts were locked out this afternoon due to a network account attack. The source of the attack was traced and corrective action was (and still is) being taken.
02/18/2005 During the weekly Friday evening IT maintenance window tonight several IT systems will be restarted. Users could experience very brief service outages for a minute or two while the servers reboot.
02/18/2005 The delivery of some email messages was delayed due to a problem with PureMessage, Truman's anti-SPAM and anti-virus email processing system. We have been working with PureMessage technical support and resolved the problem. All Truman email queues are operating normally now.
02/12/2005 PureMessage will be updated tonight during the Friday evening maintenance window that begins at 9pm. For a short time email may be queued instead of delivered immediately.
02/09/2005 Dynamic (database-driven) Websites were temporarily unavailable early Wednesday morning due to errors on the Truman database server. The errors were cleared and services restored shortly before 8 AM. Affected websites included TruView, WWW, ITS, goBulldogs, etc.
02/07/2005 Network services were briefly unavilable in Baldwin Hall this morning. The problem was corrected at ~ 8 AM by a restart of the network switches in Baldwin Hall.
02/02/2005 Another network account password attack occurred this evening briefly locking several network accounts. The problem computer has been identified and disconnected. We have reduced the duration of the account lockout time as much as possible to minimize the impact to our users.
01/31/2005 We had another brief period of locked network accounts today. The responsible computer system has been traced and disconnected from the campus network.
02/03/2005 A system conflict caused the web server Argon to hang during a regularly scheduled reboot Thursday morning. A manual reboot at 8am cleared the error and all services are functioning normally at this time. This problem is unrelated to the error on the Library's website yesterday. The Truman home site and Admissions were unaffected. The failure did affect several departmental websites, such as ITS, Library, Human Resources, etc.
02/03/2005 Due to technical difficulties, the Pickler Memorial Library website is currently unavailable. Technicians are working to restore services. Updates as to the status will be posted here as progress continues.
--
Update 6:00pm - We are estimating that the library website may be available again at approximately 10pm. This is only an estimate and the time frame may change as work continues.
---
Update 9:43pm - The library website is once again available. All services should be restored/functional.
02/01/2005 There were several brief periods today where virus infected and / or compromised workstations caused problems. We addressed each incident as quickly as possible. We're also working on implementing additional controls to reduce the impact of workstations that aren't setup or maintained properly.
02/04/2005 As scheduled, all student, faculty and staff network passwords were set early this morning to force users to choose a new password. Note: On some computer systems this password change prompt may not appear until the computer system is rebooted.
03/31/2005 Internet traffic on TCP\IP port 6667 has been blocked indefinitely due to problems with hacked and virus infected computer systems on campus.
01/31/2005 There have been several cases of slowed Internet performance today due to attempted DoS attacks. We are working on resolving each incident as soon as possible.
03/31/2005 ICMP Internet traffic has been blocked indefinitely due to problems with hacked and virus infected computer systems on campus.
01/28/2005 Internet access was briefly unavailable this morning to a another network attack. This attack appears to be coming from a Truman system against an outside site. We are addressing the problem.
