Banner 9 Upgrade
The Banner 9 Upgrade is a campus wide initiative to complete the upgrade of our Banner environment from Banner 8x to Banner 9. According to Ellucian, “Banner 9 by Ellucian is no ordinary upgrade. It delivers a fresh user experience, all-new tools, and significantly improved capabilities across Banner, driving new efficiencies so you can focus on student success.” The Banner 9 environment is comprised of three main application groups. The terminology for the Banner 9 upgrade and these software groups continues to evolve so we will refer to them as groups.
Group 1 is known as the Transformed Modules or Admin Pages. These are equivalent to our Banner Forms/INB environment.
Update: This group is the priority group for upgrade. Tentative timeline for upgrade Banner Forms/INB to Banner 9 Admin Pages is February 2018 during the normal Banner upgrade period.
Group 2 is the Banner “Lightweight” Applications. The applications are independent of each other, some replace existing Banner 8 process and some are new functionality. Faculty Grade Entry is a “Lightweight” Application and was our first Banner 9 application that came live (August of 2016).
Update: Ellucian is now moving away from calling these “lightweight” applications and has begun merging most applications into module based self service applications similar to the structure in Banner 8 Self-Service.
Group 3 is the Self-Service Applications. These will be the Banner 9 versions of the Banner services offered through TruView.
Update: Ellucian is slowly expanding the roadmaps for each module and moving more self-service applications into Banner 9 architecture but no complete plan has been developed and no timeframe for completion has been provided.
