At approximately 8:50 am today, ITS was made aware of an issue with Student Printing.  ITS is currently working on the issue, with no current time to resolution.  An update will be posted when the issue has been resolved.  We apologize for the inconvenience, and than you for youe patience.

*UPDATE* - The server maintenance scheduled for tonight at 8:00 PM is being postponed.  ITS will post an update when the maintenance is scheduled again,  We apologize for any inconvenience, and than you for your patience.

 

At approximately 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 26th, ITS will be performing maintenance on the Truman Servers.  During this time, some systems may be temporarily unavailable.  Maintenance is expected to take about 4 hours, and an update will be posted when completed.  We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.

Resolved 11:00 pm - 2/23/26

Microsoft has determined that customers in North America who leverage Cisco/Duo in their MFA sign-in flow were impacted and Cisco/Duo was able to rsolve the issue around 11:00 am CST.

Update 10:45 AM - 2/23/26:

Users appear to be able to log in to M365 Online services again.  Microsoft is reviewing sign-in logs and related network telemetry following reports of 504 gateway timeout errors affecting sign-in using Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), through Microsoft's Platform Authenticator and third-party MFA such as DUO. Truman IT Staff will also continue to monitor the situation. 

Original Notice 8:30 AM - 2/23/26:
Microsoft recently completed a service operation that was intended to upgrade their API flow and unfortunately, it impacted Microsoft 365 logins.

Microsoft advises that they are in the process of deploying a fix for this issue. Truman IT staff is working on a manual process that may help to resolve the issue sooner than Microsoft's broad fix rollout.

UPDATE: Banner upgrade is complete and all services are available

Banner Upgrade

The Banner system is scheduled for upgrade on Sunday, February 22rd. Banner and all Banner integrated, dependent services including the Banner links (Tools) in TruView will be unavailable starting at 5:00am Sunday morning, February 22rd. Please plan on the system being unavailable for much of the day. 

Upon completion of the upgrade, a Service Note will be posted to announce services are available.

Note: Brightspace services will not be impacted by the Banner upgrade and will be available as usual.

Some Mac users experienced intermittent inability to access MS365 Exchange mailboxes in Apple Mail on February 16, with a "com.apple.accounts error 3" after Duo MFA (users could log in but sync failed). Service appears stable today, but this is tied to Apple Mail's reliance on Exchange Web Services (EWS), which Microsoft is phasing out: phased disablement starts October 1, 2026, with full retirement by April 1, 2027. Immediate solutions:

  • Use Outlook on the web: outlook.office.com
  • Install Microsoft Outlook for Mac: Setup guide

These are fully supported and unaffected. Apple may release a patch for compatibility, but we recommend transitioning now to avoid future disruptions.

Users may be seeing degraded service functionality or be unable to access multiple Microsoft 365 services.

Users may be receiving a "451 4.3.2 temporary server issue" error message when attempting to send or receive email through Outlook.
 
Some of the impacted service functions include, but may not be limited to:
- Sending and receiving email through Exchange Online, including notification email from Microsoft Viva Engage as well as subscription email for Microsoft Fabric users.
- Collecting message traces.
- Searching within SharePoint Online and/or Microsoft OneDrive.
- Accessing the service portals, including Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender XDR, and the Microsoft 365 admin center.
- Creating chats, meetings, teams, channels or adding members in Microsoft Teams.
- Receiving presence or location information in Microsoft Teams.
- Applying and managing sensitivity labels, interactive operations on reports, and artifacts with sensitivity labels in Microsoft Fabric.

Scope of impact
Any users served through an affected section of service infrastructure in the North America region may be intermittently impacted.

Preliminary Root cause
We identified that the issue was caused by elevated service load resulting from reduced capacity during maintenance for a subset of North America hosted infrastructure.

Current status
Jan 23, 2026, 12:27 AM CST
We’ve confirmed that the affected infrastructure has returned to a healthy state and is operating as expected. We’ll continue to closely monitor the remediation actions taken and make any necessary adjustments to maintain stability. If users experience any residual issues, clearing local DNS caches or temporarily lowering DNS TTL values may help ensure a quicker remediation.

Update: Maintenance work is complete and all services are available

We will be performing maintenance on the Shibboleth User Authentication server and the Banner application servers starting at 1:30pm on Thursday, 1/1/2026, The Shibboleth server maintenance should cause only minimal, brief outage(s) as it is restarted in support of a required maintenance in support of new initiatives. Banner outages should be 10 to 15 minutes for each application server as we work through them completing the reconfigurations and system restarts to pick up the updates. If all goes well, work should be completed in approximately an hour.

The Banner October 2025 upgrade is complete and services are now available

The external campus network connection was interrupted from 3:12 pm to 3:32 pm. Service has been restored and the root cause is being investigated.

Due to an issue with the Banner backup services, the Banner database was down until 7:25am following its shutdown for backup. This impacted Banner and all Banner integrated services including Banner links in TruView.

Services are now available.

***Update*** - The power has been restored to the network equipment and all services should be available again within the next 10 minutes. 

The network on the West side of West Campus Suites is currently down affecting wired and wireless connections. A techician is enroute to investigate.

*UPDATE* The virtual desktop maintenance is complete as of 11pm.

ITS will be performing virtual desktop maintenance tonight, starting at 8:00 PM.  During this time, services may be unavailable.  Maintenance is expected to last 2-3 hours, and an update will be posted when the maintenance is complete and services are restored.  We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.

We are currently experience slowness with our virtual environment and we are working with vendor support to isolate and resolve the source of slowness.  We will provided an update when we have more information.  We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.

** UPDATE **  The virtual environment (view.truman.edu) is up and running again, but we are still working to ensure the environment remains stable and usable.  We will continue to monitor the system closely as we experience the issues when under an elevated load, and we may need to make more adjustments.  For those courses requiring the use of the virtual lab software over the next few days, please have an alternative plan in place while we continue to work through these response-time issues.  We appreciate your patience and understanding.

The virtual desktop enviroment is currently undergoing emergency maintenance.  We are reviewing the virtual desktop environment due to slowness issues and it is currently down.  We will provide additional information once the enviroment is availabe again.  We hope to have it operational before classes begin tomorrow morning.

We are working with our bookstore vendor, Barnes & Noble, to resolve single sign-on issues to the bookstore services, including AIP for the faculty and opt-in/out services for the students. While we work through these issues there will be some sporadic disruptions to all Shibboleth SSO services including logins to Banner, Brightspace and many other services. If you get an error logging into a server, wait a couple of minutes and then retry. 

We appreciate your patience as we work to restore fully functional services for our campus.

We again experienced issues with Shibboleth that caused proxy errors when attempting to log into any service that uses Shibboleth authentication, including Banner, Brightspace, and many other services. Shibboleth services have been restored and thus all dependent services are available as well. We continue to monitor and research this issue.
