Purpose
To attempt to answer any frequently asked question you may have before, during or after your Truman Faculty/Staff email account has been migrated to the new Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 platform.
Q. What will happen once I contact the IT Service Center to have my account migrated?
A. An ITS ticket will be created in your name and passed to the technician to schedule your account migration. The technician will contact you by email or phone to work out a migration time that works for your schedule. Typically these will be during regular business hours.
Q. Once my migration is scheduled with an ITS technician, what do I need to do?
A. When it is time to migrate your account, you will not need to do anything. However, since you will not be able to use your email during the migration, ITS recommends that you close your email client. The technician will give you any necessary additional information.
Q. How long will the migration take?
A. The time it will take to migrate your email account will vary based on several factors. Typically, the total time will be anywhere from 15 minutes to 2 hours, mainly based on the size of and the number of messages in your mailbox. Most migrations take less than an hour.
Q. How will I know when I can use my email again?
A. A technician from ITS will contact you by phone to let you know that your email migration is complete, and you are free to access your email. The technician will also instruct you on how to proceed if you need assistance after the migration.
Q. Will my email look or behave differently?
A. Your email client, whether it is Outlook, Mac Mail, Thunderbird or Eudora, should look and behave the same. If any changes are needed, they will be for configuration only, and the technician who contacts you will assist with those. If you access your email via the Internet, (exchange.truman.edu) then your email will look and behave slightly differently. These changes are documented below in the section called “Outlook Web Access to Outlook Web App Changes”.
Q. What configuration changes will be needed if I do not use Outlook or Mac Mail as my email client?
A. You will need to change the incoming server name to email.truman.edu where you previously used zinc.truman.edu.
Q. What should I do if I have an issue with my email after the migration?
A. The ITS Technician who contacts you will be give you instructions on what to do if an issue should arise. As a general rule, ITS respectfully requests that all issues be reported to the IT Service Center at x4544. They will be able to assist you or create a ticket to be escalated to the appropriate ITS personnel.
