The student S: drive, and faculty / staff X: drive, are currently down. Data from the SS1 backup will be restored to the NAS (Hydrogen) and logon scripts updated to reflect the location change. The student S: drive and faculty / staff X: drive should be back up in approximately 30 minutes. |

03/11/2005 | There are a some new viruses that propagate via .rar files. RAR is normally a compressed file format. Rar is logically similar to Zip compressed files. If you receive a .rar file as an email attachment don't open it unless you know what it is. We will check with our email antivirus software vendor about adding .rar antivirus scanning to their product. |
03/06/2005 | We have received several reports of Internet users who are not able to access Truman web sites. One possible cause is what appears to be a possible Internet DNS cache poisoning attack (http://isc.sans.org/diary.php). Our DNS servers were also receiving heavy traffic from several remote sites. We are continuing to investigate this issue. |

03/01/2005 | 12:52 p.m. TruView is not currently able to send outgoing mail. The TruView system will be restarted at approximately 12:55 to try to fix the problem. All other systems appear to be functioning correctly.
UPDATE: The problem was actually with mail.truman.edu, the SMTP server. The problem has been resolved. |
02/25/2005 | Some Truman network accounts were locked out this afternoon due to a network account attack. The source of the attack was traced and corrective action was (and still is) being taken. |
02/18/2005 | During the weekly Friday evening IT maintenance window tonight several IT systems will be restarted. Users could experience very brief service outages for a minute or two while the servers reboot. |
02/18/2005 | The delivery of some email messages was delayed due to a problem with PureMessage, Truman's anti-SPAM and anti-virus email processing system. We have been working with PureMessage technical support and resolved the problem. All Truman email queues are operating normally now. |
02/12/2005 | PureMessage will be updated tonight during the Friday evening maintenance window that begins at 9pm. For a short time email may be queued instead of delivered immediately. |

02/07/2005 | Network services were briefly unavilable in Baldwin Hall this morning. The problem was corrected at ~ 8 AM by a restart of the network switches in Baldwin Hall. |
02/02/2005 | Another network account password attack occurred this evening briefly locking several network accounts. The problem computer has been identified and disconnected. We have reduced the duration of the account lockout time as much as possible to minimize the impact to our users. |
01/31/2005 | We had another brief period of locked network accounts today. The responsible computer system has been traced and disconnected from the campus network. |
02/03/2005 | A system conflict caused the web server Argon to hang during a regularly scheduled reboot Thursday morning. A manual reboot at 8am cleared the error and all services are functioning normally at this time. This problem is unrelated to the error on the Library's website yesterday. The Truman home site and Admissions were unaffected. The failure did affect several departmental websites, such as ITS, Library, Human Resources, etc. |
02/03/2005 | Due to technical difficulties, the Pickler Memorial Library website is currently unavailable. Technicians are working to restore services. Updates as to the status will be posted here as progress continues. -- Update 6:00pm - We are estimating that the library website may be available again at approximately 10pm. This is only an estimate and the time frame may change as work continues. --- Update 9:43pm - The library website is once again available. All services should be restored/functional. |
02/01/2005 | There were several brief periods today where virus infected and / or compromised workstations caused problems. We addressed each incident as quickly as possible. We're also working on implementing additional controls to reduce the impact of workstations that aren't setup or maintained properly. |
02/04/2005 | As scheduled, all student, faculty and staff network passwords were set early this morning to force users to choose a new password. Note: On some computer systems this password change prompt may not appear until the computer system is rebooted. |
03/31/2005 | Internet traffic on TCP\IP port 6667 has been blocked indefinitely due to problems with hacked and virus infected computer systems on campus. |
