Network Upgrade Project 2004

It is exciting times in Information Technology Services as we strive to meet both the current and future networking needs of Truman State University. This project addresses the update/upgrade needs of the active academic and business environment found here at Truman, A rapidly changing technology environment; existing equipment life-cycle and increasingly demanding needs precipitated the proposal. A network proposal was made to perform a network infrastructure upgrade and then accepted by the University's Board of Governors in December of 2003.

The upgrade, when completed, will provide the university with a stable core network solution; manageability in terms of network health monitoring, bandwidth use and security via incorporation of advanced security tools and controls; scalability - accommodation of needs for growth; LAN segmentation to manage internal network congestion; standardization of equipment across the network and finally improved productivity and a reduction in overall total cost of ownership (TCO).

The network infrastructure upgrade plan was developed by SunGard Collegis, Inc. in cooperation with local technicians and industry specialists. After reviewing a number of options and factors, the decision was made to select the industry-standard Cisco Systems for the physical equipment solution. SBC DataComm, a Cisco partner, will provide equipment, installation assistance, functionality guarantees and ongoing maintenance.

Installation is scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 6th with an anticipated completion date of Wednesday, July 28th.  For a detailed implementation schedule and project plan, please check the links to the right.
