Some Resources Currently UnavailableThe first backup is an Operating System backup. This saves the system areas of a server so the operating system can be quickly restored. This backup is usually needed in the case of hardware failure. This allows us to quickly restore basic server operating system functions.
The second type of backup is a data backup. This saves the user data areas of a server. This includes the files on file servers (such as U:, W: or Y: drives), web sites, databases etc.
Backup schedules are different for each server.
Operating system backups are performed 2-3 times a week and user data
backups are done weekly. Mission critical information is backed up
daily or hourly.
Backup retention is how long backups are kept. Operating system backups are kept for 3 generations. User data weekly backups are kept for 4 weeks. Daily backups are kept for 7 days. If you accidentally delete a file and you would like ITS to restore it; it's important you contact the ITS HelpDesk promptly.
