So you’re considering a laptop or a PC for your first Semester at Truman? Congratulations, you’re at the right spot, because:
- They are cheap and fast! (And will be even cheaper with a Truman Discount!)
- You can do research, assignments, and browse the web.
- You can play games or socialize with your friends on Facebook.
- ITS will help you get them connected to the Truman network.
PC Or Laptop?
Usually laptops are preferred because they are portable, so you can carry your laptop to the library or to classes. They aren’t significantly more expensive than desktops.
However, desktops also have other advantages:
- Desktops are often cheaper and more powerful compared to laptops. If you are a gamer, a desktop is the better option.
- You will have a larger screen - you will see how important it is to have a large screen when you have to study in front of the computer for hours.
- You will have full sized mouse and keyboard.
OK, I’m going to buy one, what do you want me to know?
If you’re considering which one to buy and you aren’t very tech-savvy, please consider the following facts:
- Save money buying hardware: Unless you know you will be playing those latest 3D games, speed does not matter that much. Any PC with 2GB or more of RAM is good enough for your everyday tasks.
- You can save money buying software too: Truman provides many software applications that are free for students. There are also other companies that offer great deals. For example, Microsoft Office is very affordable. Click here to see a list of software that you can get for free or at discounted prices.
- If you are just buying PCs and laptops for web browsing and emailing only, you might want to know about netbooks.
