Protecting your computer against Viruses is one of the most important things to do to keep your computer healthy and running at it's best.

Here are some guidelines to follow to keep your computer at its safest:

Activate Windows Update and make sure it's set to Automatic Updates
Activate Windows Firewall
Use and continual update of an Anti-Virus program (such program can be found free for Truman Students below)

We believe all University systems are already protected against threats, but it’s always a good idea to make sure McAfee VirusScan is enabled and up-to-date on your system.

While Using and Maintaining McAffee VirusScan some important guidelines and tips to follow include:

VirusScan is enabled and up-to-date
Any suspicious activity is assessed by running as full scan of your computer

Free Antivirus Software for Student-owned Computers
Truman State University now has purchased licenses from Network Associates which allows us to provide McAfee VirusScan (PC) and McAfee Virex (Mac) antivirus software to students at no additional charge to them.

WARNING: Before attempting to install this software, make sure that you are not already running antivirus software on your machine. You must uninstall existing antivirus software. Failure to do so may cause problems with your machine.

Other antivirus products include Norton/Symantec, PCcillin, Trend, Sophos, etc. If you wish to use McAfee instead of one of these, consult your product manual on uninstalling your current product before proceeding. Go to the Add/Remove Programs option in Control Panel to get started.
