Computer Naming Standard

Statement

Computers connected to the Truman network must follow the following naming scheme when setting the computer name.  This is done to ensure proper operation of both the computer and network management software such as McAfee Virus Protection, inventory control, etc. 

This standard applies to all computers on the Truman network, whether faculty, staff, or student.

Determining your computer name

• The first two characters designate your building location. These codes are located in the table below.

  Blanton Hall	BL	McKinney Center	MK
  Brewer Hall	BR	Nason Hall	NH
  Barnett Hall	BT	Ophelia Parrish	OP
  Campbell Apartments	CA	Pershing Building	PB
  Centennial Hall	CH	Pickler Library	PL
  Counseling Services	CS	Power Plant	PP
  Dobson Hall	DH	Public Safety	PS
  Fair Apartments	FA	Recreation Center	RC
  Grim Hall	GH	Ryle Hall	RH
  Kirk Building	KB	Student Union	SU
  Kirk Memorial	KM	Violette Hall	VH
  McClain Hall	MC	West Campus Suites	WC

• The next three or four characters are your office or room number.
• The final two or three characters are your computer number. I.E. If there's only one computer in the room then the computer number is 001. If there are multiple computers, the first computer is 001, the next is 002, 003 etc. (if you have a 4 digit office number, use a 2 digit number here)
  
  For Example: If you reside in Dobson Hall room 301 and both you and your roommate have computers, one should be named DH301001 and the other should be named DH301002.
