Requesting Student Worker Access to the Banner Administrative
System
September 20, 2004
Student worker access to Banner is
very limited and discouraged
and requires a formal request and review process each academic year.
Security:
Banner IDs and passwords are not to be shared. All individuals
requesting access to the Banner Administrative System must read the Data
Standards Document and sign the Request for Banner ID form to indicate they have
read the document. Sharing login information will result in the ID being
disabled. The President’s staff member to whom the office reports would need to
submit a request to the Steering Committee for the ID to be enabled, if desired.
Approval Process:
A staff member makes a written request for a specific student worker
to have access. The request must include a listing of the specific forms the
student worker is to access, whether access is query or update access, and a
rationale for the request.
This request is submitted to the director of the office to whom the
staff member reports for his/her consideration.
The Director submits the original request, along with a written
recommendation regarding the request, to the President’s staff member to whom
the office reports.
If approved, the President’s staff member submits the original
request, along with a written recommendation regarding the request, to the
Computer Systems Coordinator for inclusion on the next Steering Committee
agenda.
The Computer Systems Coordinator takes the request and
recommendation to the Steering Committee for review.
The Steering Committee makes the decision.
The Computer Systems Coordinator informs the staff member, director,
and President’s staff member of the decision.
If the request is approved, the regular University institutional or
workstudy approval forms will be required to hire the student. Students will be
paid consistent with University policy.
Each approved student must read the Data Standards Document. A
Request for Banner ID form must be completed for each student, with a copy of
the approved access list attached. The Director of the office is responsible for
providing appropriate training, including FERPA training.
Requests for student worker access to Banner expire at the end of
each academic year and must be reviewed and approved by the Steering Committee
each academic year.
